Creating a Rule

Creating a rule simply consists of setting a name, a set of criteria, and the actions that will take place when the criteria are met. Although it is simple to create a rule, the effect that it will have on how your assets are handled can be extensive. For this reason, you should consider how a new rule will affect requests to your assets before you actually create it.

Reminder: New rules must undergo a review process.

To create a rule

  1. Navigate to the Rules Engine page corresponding to the desired platform.
  2. In the Name / Description option, type the name that you would like to assign to your new rule.
  3. Next to the IF statement, select the initial type of criteria that must be met before a set of actions will take place. If you would like to set the default behavior for handling all of your assets, then you should select "Always" and then skip to step 6.
  4. Specify the criteria that must be met for a successful match.
  5. If you would like to add an additional condition that must be met, then click the button that appears next to the word "Matches."
    1. Select "AND IF" and the additional type of criteria that must be met before a set of actions will take place.
    2. Define the condition that must be met for a successful match.
    3. Repeat step 5 as needed.
  6. Once you have specified all of the conditions that must be met for the current statement, click the button that appears next to the word "Features." Select and configure the desired action to take place. Repeat this step as needed.
  7. If you would like to specify what should happen when the last match condition is not met, then you should click the button that appears next to the word "Matches."
    1. Select "ELSE IF" and the type of criteria that must be met before a set of actions will take place.
    2. Define the condition that must be met for a successful match.
    3. Repeat step 7 as needed.
  8. Once you have configured your rule to your specifications, click Add.
  9. If you have multiple rules, make sure that the newly created rule is in the appropriate position on the list. If the rule requires reordering, click the arrow until the newly created rule reaches the desired position.
